Wooden Boat School. Where it all happens. Up to 3
In June 2005, Wilfried attended the Wooden Boat School in Maine, USA. The course chosen "An Introduction to Boatbuilding, building Karl Stambaughs Bay Skiff 15" with Bill Thomas (see his exellent site: www.billthomaswoodworking.com), was chosen both as a leraning experience, and with a view to offering our own similar courses here in South Africa. Our first course starts February 2006, with "Introduction to Boat Building, building a small family fun flat bottomed skiff for rowing, sail or power" or "Building your own Sassafras Canoe" (choose either of the up to 3 sizes we have in our Wooden Kit section "Canoes & Kayaks".
Our course structure will be similar to that of the Wooden Boat School course, but adapted to our local requirements, smaller building facilities and with more emphasis on the basics.

"I can highly recoment any at the Wooden Boat School to any South African who is thinking of going there. Not only is it instructive, but the whole experience of the venue, the location (quite rural and on the waterway), the facilities and the people, make this something to be remembered as a developmental experience aswell as gaining boatbuilding knowledge. You will meet some of the greats in the wooden boat building industry and see some of the greats in terms of the many wooden boats the school has. You can actually use them too", says Wilfried.
